Effects of Subjective Health Status on Life Satisfaction among Middle-aged and Aged People in Korea£ºTesting Mediating Effect of Depression

Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to assess the effect of subject health status on life satisfaction of the middle aged and aged peopled and to examine whether depression could be a mediating variable between these two variables. This study analyzed the 4th wave data from Korean Retirement and Income Study. A proposed structural model to life satisfaction had been identified and tested by way of SEM and so on. The results of the study are as follows. First, subjective health status could have a significant positive effect on life satisfaction. Second, subjective health status could have a significant negative effect on depression. Third, depression could have a significant negative effect on life satisfaction. Fourth, the research found that subjective health status was indirectly related to life satisfaction through depression. Finally, theoretical and practical implications in terms of enhancing life satisfaction are also discussed.
